On November 8, 2016, Washington voters passed Initiative 1433. The initiative, among other things, created new requirements in the Washington Minimum Wage Act for employers to provide employees with paid sick leave, and provided the Department of Labor & Industries the authority to enforce and investigate retaliation claims.

To help employers implement these requirements, and to help workers understand their rights, L&I committed to developing an administrative policy addressing frequently asked questions about the paid sick leave requirements. In July 2019, the department circulated an initial draft of the administrative policy and solicited feedback.

The department reviewed the comments submitted, and identified additional updates to the administrative policy draft. As a follow-up to those edits, the department is circulating a second version of the draft administrative policy for stakeholders to review and provide feedback.

We are asking the public to review the draft administrative policy by Tuesday, March 10, 2020.

Feedback can be submitted directly to this page via the “Submit Comments” tab, or using an attached document via the “Upload Documents” tab.
